"Hull House has long been known as a pioneering effort in social equality - Jane Addams and Ellen Starr Gates opened the house in 1889 to educate and improve the lot of the newly arrived European immigrants. However, the house is also known for the Devil Baby, a child with horns pointed ears, scaled skin and a tail. Stories say that the baby was the curse of a devout Catholic woman and her atheist husband. The baby is said to have started laughing and dancing as it was about to be baptized. Not knowing what to do, Addams is believed have been hidden the child on the top floor. To this day, people still report seeing a ghostly face looking from the attic window.
